Head in the Hills
This series is a photographic response to 2020, inspired by ‘The Road Not Taken’ by Robert Frost.
Throughout a year of isolation, like many others I found myself experiencing a lack of creative drive. This caused me to reintroduce myself to poetry, further reconstructing my attitudes towards it. Poetry starts with experiences and moments throughout ones’ life and is then reflected on and compiled. This feeling of reflection is what lead me to look through past photographs in a different light. After reading ‘The Road Not Taken’, I felt creative for the first time in months.
Frost’s depiction of someone travelling without knowing the right way to turn or whether one has made the correct decision were parallel to my own feelings. Frost goes on to hint that there is no choice but rather an illusion of choice that is remembered as real. It was this lack of clarity that I felt mirrored 2020 and that I chose to explore with this project.
